A family attending a funeral returned home to a shocking theft, as burglars looted gold jewellery worth 20 tolas and Rs 2.2 lakh in cash, totalling a loss of over Rs 7.07lakh. The break-in occurred between 1 pm and 4 pm on Saturday at a residence in Kabra Nagar, Garkheda.

According to the complaint filed by Vijendra Kharat, a resident of Plot No. 382, Kabranagar, he lives with his wife, uncle, and younger brother in a joint family. The family had left their home in the morning to attend the funeral of his aunt Savita’s mother at Krantinagar. Vijendra locked the house at 11 am, returning briefly with his son Kuldeep to collect an iron bed before leaving again. When they returned at 4 pm, they discovered the main lock was broken and valuables missing. Inside, the locker in the kitchen cupboard had been pried open, with Rs 20,000 in cash, gold rings, a pendant, earrings, and other valuables worth Rs 42,500 stolen. A case has been registered at Jawaharnagar Police Station, and the investigation is being led by PSI Prashant Munde.

Larger loot from the 1st Floor

A more extensive loot was uncovered on the first floor, where the uncle’s family resided. The burglars made off with Rs 2 lakh in cash and a substantial collection of gold jewellery. The stolen ornaments included 4 tolas of necklaces, another necklace weighing 3 tolas, a 2.5-tola gold chain, a 5-gram gold chain, a 6-gram gold ornament, a 5-gram nose ring, a 7.5-gram nose pin, 8 grams of chandelier earrings, 4 grams of earrings, 3.5 grams of stud earrings, a 5-gram pendant, and two bangles weighing 5 tolas. The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be over Rs 7.07lakh.
