Aurangabad, March 15:

The University Grant Commission announced that the qualifications of Chartered Accountants (CA), Company Secretaries (CS) and Cost and Works Accountants (ICWA) will be considered equivalent to a postgraduate degree for appearing in UGC- NET.

It may be noted that UGC received requests from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) to consider the qualification being awarded by them (CA, CS, ICWA), equivalent to postgraduate degree.

Considering this, the Commission set up an expert committee that submitted its report.

The UGC in its meeting held on February 18, 2021 and considered the recommendation of the Expert Committee and resolved as under ‘CA/CS/ICWA’ qualification be considered equivalent to PG degree.

The CA, CS and ICWA will be treated as PG holders in India and abroad will be able to appear for the National Eligibility Test (NET).

The UGC NET is an eligibility test for seeking a Junior Research Fellowship and for the post of assistant professor in universities and senior colleges.

It will not only help CAs for pursuing higher studies but will also facilitate the mobility of Indian CAs globally.
