Aurangabad, March 2:

A case was registered against former MLA Kishanchand Tanwani, former corporator Surendra Kulkarni and Atish Jojare at the Krantichowk police station late on Monday night for allegedly beating up Nagri Mitra Pathak after they tried to fine two unmasked students.

Covid infection is on the rise in the city. In view of the growing cases, the Nagri Mitra Pathak of the corporation takes action against traders and citizens without masks and for non-observance of physical distance. The squad arrived at Gulmandi on Monday evening and fined two students without masks. Meanwhile, former corporator Surendra Kulkarni and Atish Jojare forbade the corporation team to take action. This led to an argument between them. Former MLA Kishanchand Tanwani also tried to intervene. As the argument escalated, the accused abused and thrashed the pathak. A member of the squad, Devidas Laxman Susar (Padegaon) lodged a complaint at the Krantichowk police station late on Monday night. Some Shiv Sena office bearers tried to prevent the case from being registered. However, their efforts failed and the police registered a case against the accused of obstructing government work, abusing and threatening to kill. As soon as a case was registered, the police took immediate action and arrested the accused Kulkarni and Jojare. SI Mahadev Gaikwad is investigating the case.
