Aurangabad, June 10:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a recovery agent, working with union Bank of India, Main Branch, here in the city in a bribery case. The recovery agent Suresh Bhalerao was arrested red handed while accepting two bearer cheques of Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 each from the complainant on June 5 at Paithan Gate area.

A case has been registered against recovery agent Bhalerao, working with union Bank of India, Main Branch, Paithan Gate, and an unknown public servant. Bhalerao demanded Rs. 1 lakh for getting sanction and disbursement of loan amount of Rs.10 lakh under Prime Minister Employment Guarantee Scheme (PMEGP) to the complainant.

During the follow up action, CBI caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs.30,000/- and Rs.50,000/- from the complainant in the form of two bearer cheques. Search was conducted at the premises of the accused which led to recovery of incriminating documents. Meanwhile, the role of bank officials is also being investigated, the CBI sources informed.

Bhalerao was earlier remanded in the police custody and now the Court on Tuesday remanded him in the judicial custody.
