Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign), a team from the Central Government arrived for an inspection on Wednesday. A two-member team first visited the municipal corporation's Solid Waste Management section. They then clarified that they would begin their work independently and informed that the municipal officers and staff were not needed to assist them. The actual inspection will begin on Thursday.

The Central Government changes the criteria for the cleanliness campaign every year. In 2024, a survey was conducted for 9,500 points, and the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) scored 6,737 points. This year, the survey is being conducted for 12,500 points. The administration has made strong preparations to ensure that the city ranks among the top ten in the country. For the past few days, the civic administration had been waiting for the arrival of the central team. On Wednesday afternoon, the team visited the municipal corporation headquarters. After interacting with the SWM section officials and personnel, the two members left.

What will be inspected?

The central team will inspect several aspects of the solid waste management, including:

The effectiveness of the 'Door-to-Door' waste collection system.

How the waste collected daily is processed.

Whether citizens separate wet and dry waste.

The cleanliness and dust-free condition of the roads.

The attractiveness of dividers, and whether beautiful flowering plants have been planted on them.

Whether cleanliness is visible throughout the city.

Whether citizens in each ward have access to basic amenities.

Municipal Corporation’s strengths:

The CSMC administration processes 100% of the waste every day. Drainage water is treated at three locations through Sewage Treatment Plants. Regarding waste segregation, awareness campaigns have been conducted in schools, the number of public toilets has increased, and fines are being imposed on individuals who spit or urinate in public places. These actions are expected to help the municipal corporation improve its survey scores and become a top ranker.
