Aurangabad Dec 3:

Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidate Satish Chavan is leading by 17, 372 votes from his rival BJP candidate, in the first round of counting, for Marathwada Graduates'' Constituency election, today.

Satish Chavan polled 27,879 votes, while BJP''s Shirish Boralkar secured 10,973 votes.

The counting of votes began at 8 am today. At the outset, the election officials counted the postal votes. Later on, the first round of counting the votes began at 4 pm and got completed at 6.30 pm. The first round completed the counting of 56,000 votes.

The election administration received 1,248 postal votes. Of which, Chavan got 600, Boralkar obtained 286 and 173 votes were declared as invalid.

There are 3.73 lakh voters in the constituency. Out of which, 2.40 lakh graduates cast their votes at 813 polling stations in the region on December 1.
