The Damini Squad stopped a child marriage near Shivajinagar Zilla Parishad School in Wadgaon Kolhati, Waluj MIDC on Saturday.

After receiving information from superiors, Damini Squad head police sub-inspector Kanchan Mirdhe immediately contacted Amrapali Borde of the Women and Child Welfare Committee. Upon arriving at the scene, the team found relatives gathered for the wedding with a haldi ceremony underway, and learned the marriage was scheduled for Sunday. During inquiry, it emerged that both the boy and girl had lost their fathers and relatives were bearing the wedding expenses. The girl's mother works as a domestic helper. Representatives of the child welfare committee, along with Anganwadi workers Nirmala Jadhav, Surekha Khotkar, and Priyanka Pardhe, informed the girl's mother and boy's aunt about the Child Marriage Prevention Act. A written undertaking was obtained from them. The action was carried out by assistant police sub-inspector Lata Jadhav and team.
