Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
The intensity of summer is increasing day by day. On Thursday, a technical fault occurred at Jayakwadi, causing the city's water supply to be stopped for as long as five hours. The effects of this were seen in the city on Friday. The neighbourhoods that were supposed to receive water on Thursday did not get it. Those who were scheduled for Friday are now being assured of water on Saturday. The gap in the water supply has increased by one more day. And it is indeed causing a great inconvenience as the festival season is underway.
There was an expectation that the city would receive sufficient water during the summer. However, in reality, the laying of a 2,500 mm diameter water pipeline has not been completed. Meanwhile, the 900 mm pipeline work is finished, but the work on the water treatment plant at Pharola is stalled. Due to one contractor, 18 lakh citizens are suffering from water shortages. The deadline for additional water supply has been set for April 30. There is a strong possibility that this deadline will also be missed. This summer, the city's residents will have to face a water crisis.
According to the municipal corporation's claim, the city is receiving water once every five days. Many neighbourhoods receive water on the sixth and eighth days. Due to a technical fault at Jayakwadi on Thursday, the city's water supply has been delayed by one day. The neighbourhoods that were supposed to receive water on Thursday got it on Friday. Friday's scheduled supply will be completed on Saturday. In this way, the municipal corporation has extended the gap by one day. Due to the water shortage, common citizens are suffering. Many residents have had to spend money to hire private tankers.
A cycle will be completed
CSMC executive engineer K M Phalak said, “Due to a technical fault at Jayakwadi for five to six hours, there has been a significant gap in the city's water supply. The neighbourhoods that did not receive water yesterday are being supplied today. Today's water supply will be delayed until tomorrow.”
