Aurangabad, May 16:

The severe cyclonic storm 'Tauktae' lingering over western coast of India also hit the city as winds blowing at 35 kmph and torrential rains swept the entire city. Thunderstorms, heavy rain and accompanying strong winds left people worried. Houses in many parts were flooded and some areas were plunged into darkness. The Chikalthana observatory recorded 19.6 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm.

The city sky had been cloudy since morning. It started raining heavily around 2 pm. After about 10 to 15 minutes of rain, it stopped raining and again resumed at around 4.30 pm. The speed of the wind was tremendous as the tarpaulin on the house and vehicles blew away. As the torrential downpour intensified, many areas experienced waterlogging. The citizens who were returning home from work were caught in the downpour and had to run for cover. It rained for about half an hour. The wind uprooted trees in the vicinity of the district sessions court and the collector office. The wind also blew away signboards from shops. Lane number 9 in Jaibhavaninagar experienced heavy waterlogging. Meteorologist Vasant Shimpi said that this situation is likely to remain until Monday. It will rain from time to time. This is the result of a cyclone Tauktae.

66 kmph wind outside the city

The MGM observatory recorded rainfall of 17.2 mm until 5.30 pm. The observatory also recorded winds blowing at a speed of 66 kmph outside the city. Meteorologist Srinivas Aundhkar said that it will continue to rain for the next two days till cyclone Tauktae hits Gujarat.
