Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
While the city already has crematoriums for humans, the Nakshatrawadi area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is now seeing the final stages of construction of a state-of-the-art crematorium specifically for animals, equipped with a modern gas furnace. The facility, soon to be inaugurated, will be the city’s first official crematorium for both pet and stray animals.
The city has a large population of domestic pets, including dogs and cats, with many families treating their pets as members of the household. However, in cases of illness, accidents, or natural death, there has been no dedicated arrangement for their funerals, causing difficulties for pet owners.
As a result, deceased animals were often buried in open spaces. Stray animals dying accidentally were sometimes left by roadsides, in rivers, or other open areas, raising health concerns due to the risk of disease and foul odours.
Cremation facility for dogs and cats; fee applicable
The new pet crematorium will provide respectful funeral services exclusively for domestic and stray dogs and cats. A nominal fee will be charged for the service, informed the officials from the municipal corporation’s animal husbandry section. The cremation will use an environmentally friendly gas furnace system.
While citizens have long faced challenges due to inadequate facilities at human crematoriums, this modern gas furnace crematorium for animals has been welcomed by pet lovers. Many have expressed the view that this facility is a necessary addition to the city.
