Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The municipal corporation’s solid waste management (SWM) section has stepped up public awareness efforts to keep the city clean and attractive. As part of this initiative, municipal commissioner G Sreekanth on Thursday personally demonstrated to citizens how to properly segregate waste. A cleanliness drive was also conducted in the Sutgirni Chowk and Indiranagar areas.

From 1 April, waste collection in the city will be handled by Gujarat-based Western Imaginary Company. Public awareness forms a key component of the agreement signed with the firm. Accordingly, Mayor Sameer Rajurkar and Commissioner G Sreekanth have been appealing to residents to adopt proper waste segregation practices.

An awareness programme was held at Siddharth Garden on Wednesday evening in the presence of corporators Kirti Shinde, Govind Kendre, Siddharth Salve and Nandlal Gawli, along with deputy commissioner Nandkishor Bhombe and chief garden superintendent Vijay Patil.

On Thursday, an awareness drive was conducted at Sutgirni Chowk in the presence of the civic chief, followed by a cleanliness rally in the Indiranagar area. He explained the correct method of waste segregation through a live demonstration. Corporators Surendra Kulkarni and Nandlal Gawli, along with officials including deputy commissioner, sanitary inspectors Sachin Bhalerao, Anil Jadhav, Satish Kharat and Lata Raut, were also present.
