Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Commissioner G Sreekanth has directed that drain cleaning across the city will commence from April 1. He emphasized that the entire drainage system must be cleared before the monsoon to prevent waterlogging anywhere in the city.

A review meeting on drain cleaning was held on Monday at the Smart City office. Additional commissioner Kalpita Pimple, chief accounts and finance officer Santosh Waghule, city engineer Sanjay Kombade, additional city engineer Anil Tanpure, executive engineer (Mechanical) Amol Kulkarni, Sachin Waikar, and all departmental and ward engineers were present.

The commissioner instructed detailed planning for cleaning in all ten zones, starting from the upper sections and moving downstream to avoid silt accumulation. Action must also be taken to remove encroachments along rivers and drains, with priority given to the Naregaon area, which has significant riverbank encroachments.

River boundaries to be marked

Clearly demarcate river boundaries using durable markers such as railway sleepers or strong poles to prevent easy removal.

Last year, floods affected Rahulnagar, Itkheda, and Naregaon; officials have been instructed to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

Strict planning is required to prevent any loss of life due to future floods.

Officers have also been directed to submit daily reports on the meters of nullah cleaned.
