Several engineering, pharmacy and management colleges that were earlier transferred from the jurisdiction of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU) to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (BATU) at Lonere in Raigad district a few years ago may now be granted re-affiliation to BAMU. A resolution to this effect was approved at the management council meeting of the university, as these colleges and their students have reportedly been facing considerable difficulties.
During the meeting, council member adv Dattatray Bhange stated that students from engineering colleges affiliated to BATU are facing several issues, including delays in result declarations and the need to travel hundreds of kilometres to obtain certificates. Owing to these difficulties, many colleges are keen to return to BAMU for affiliation.
Accordingly, a proposal was moved to grant re-affiliation to such colleges. The university administration clarified that this is a policy decision and affiliation cannot be granted without the approval of the state government. However, members unanimously proposed that colleges willing to return should not be required to obtain a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from BATU, and that the state government should grant approval accordingly.
At present, only five engineering colleges in the university’s jurisdiction are affiliated with BAMU, while nearly 20 engineering and pharmacy colleges remain affiliated with BATU. In this context, the resolution assumes significance. The final outcome will depend on the state government’s response regarding the re-affiliation process.
Revenue of Rs 40 crore expected
Council member adv Dattatray Bhange also claimed that if engineering, pharmacy and management colleges affiliated with BATU are re-affiliated to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, the university could receive revenue exceeding Rs 40 crore.
