Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Uddhav Sena on Monday staged a protest at the Shahanurwadi weekly market against the municipal corporation’s decision to shut traditional weekly markets, raising slogans of “Come to the market.”

Led by former Legislative Council Opposition Leader Ambadas Danve, the party alleged the move would hurt farmers and small traders and was aimed at handing over market spaces to builders. Over 100 office-bearers and workers joined the agitation, displaying placards opposing the closure, raising slogans in support of Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray, interacting with vendors and purchasing goods in solidarity.

Among those present were Subhash Patil, Santosh Jejurkar, Balasaheb Thorat, Haribhau Hivale, and others.

Danve told reporters that closing the markets was a ploy to benefit builders and would push poor vendors towards starvation. He demanded the sites be declared hawkers’ zones and asserted the party would not allow the markets to be shut. (With photograph)
