After evidence emerged of a racket issuing fake birth certificates in the city, the municipal corporation on Wednesday formed an independent inquiry committee. Police, the zilla parishad and government medical college and hospital (GMCH) have also been asked to conduct separate probes. Standing committee chairman Anil Makariye directed officials to identify the accused and initiate criminal action.

At Tuesday’s standing committee meeting, corporator Rajgaurav Wankhede submitted proof of a forged certificate. Rani Sunil Bhalerao, a Class VIII student of Jijamata School in Misarwadi, was asked to submit her birth certificate. When her father scanned the QR code, it showed the name of Nitesh Khandare, indicating private issuance of bogus certificates. Makariye has written to the dean of GMCH and will also approach the commissioner of police. The civic panel, headed by health medical officer Dr Paras Mandalecha and comprising ward officers and doctors, will probe the case, while the zilla parishad’s education department will also be asked to conduct a separate inquiry, Wankhede said.
