Aurangabad, June 5:

The general elections of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is one of the hot and most sought-after topics for discussion for aspirants, political persons of various parties, and citizens. No expert is able to predict when the AMC election will be witnessing election in 2021 or 2022?

Presently, the election process of AMC was challenged and it is sub judice in the Supreme Court. The end of OBC reservations in local self-body elections is a new chapter that has been added to the row. Besides, the third wave of Coronavirus is likely to hit the city anytime this year.

The political reservation in the OBC category during the local self-body has come to an end with the order of the Apex Court. The legal experts claim that the reservation would be fixed after the completion of the Census 2021 process. In the meantime, if the Apex Court gives any verdict regarding the AMC election, the civic body would not be able to conduct the elections as the third wave is hinted to arrive by December end. The threat of Covid-19 is likely to continue in the year 2022 as well. Moreover, the hope of vaccinating 70 percent of citizens is less by the next year. Hence the aspirants of various political parties have no option, but to wait and watch the situation.

When contacted, the AMC additional commissioner-I, B B Nemane said, " We have not received any fresh order regarding the general election from the State Election Commission (SEC). The AMC will abide by all the instructions made to it by the SEC in future."
