“Conviction means justice to the victim,” said special inspector general of police(IGP) Virendra Mishra as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Rural) police launched ‘Mission Conviction’ and unveiled a ‘Conviction Booklet’, ‘Conviction Tracker’ and ‘FIR Deadline Tracker’ at the district crime review meeting on Thursday.

The initiative, conceptualised by IGP Mishra and implemented under SP Dr Vinay kumar Rathod and Additional SP Annapurna Singh, seeks to ensure effective enforcement of the new criminal laws BNS, BNSS and BSA and secure punishment for offenders, not merely detection of crimes. IGP Mishra said many accused in serious offences escape due to technical or human lapses in investigation. SP Rathod said the booklet was prepared after analysing past acquittals and incorporates Supreme Court rulings, including Lalita Kumari, with emphasis on preserving DNA, forensic and technical evidence. It focuses on murder, rape, POCSO, robbery and NDPS cases. The digital trackers will enable real-time monitoring of investigations. Officers of 24 police stations were directed to expedite probes and improve conviction rates.
