The Chikalthana Airport runway expansion was initiated between January 18 and 24, but later the work was hampered due to Corona crisis.

The second Corona wave hit the district and the administration was engaged in the measures to control the pandemic and hence the expansion work was stopped. There is a need for 182 acres of land for the expansion of the runway. The measurement for the land at Gut No. 410, 414, 415, 416, 417 and 555 in Chikalthana area has been completed.

Presently, the runway length is 9,300 feet (2835 meters). The runway has to be expanded till 12,000 feet and for which, 2700 feet land will have to be acquired. A proposal for 925 metres long runway was presented. In all, 155 acres land will be acquired in the first phase, 3.5 acres, in second, 2 acres in third phase and 20 acres in fourth phase, in all, 182 acres land acquisition has been proposed.

Meanwhile, no responsibility in this regard had been given on the revenue department as the competent land record authority. The department has assisted the land record department for measurement of land. However, no further action was taken in this procedure. The land measurement department and the land record department had 30 and 70 percent work respectively, said sub-divisional officer, Rameshwar Rodge.

In all, 182 acres land will be acquired, for which around 1300 properties will be hampered in this area for the expansion of 825 metres runway. The measurement has been done in Gut No. 13, 15, 16, 18, 26 and 27 in Mukundwadi area, 34, 30, 31 in Murtuzapur and 410, 414, 415, 416, 417, 55 in Chikalthana area.
