Aurangabad, Oct 28:

The Corona crisis has grappled the district for the past seven months. Although the number of Corona patients are decreasing, the serious patients and mortality rate due to Covid-19 remains a challenge for the health machinery.

Deaths due to Covid-19 are reported daily from May 13 onwards. However, the mortalities have not decreased yet even after seven months. The total deaths in the district until now crossed the 1000 mark. The number of patients being admitted for treatment has reduced now, which is a relieving news for the residents, but the serious patients are still being admitted to the hospitals. The serious patients and the mortalities remains a challenge for the health machinery.

The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) dean, Dr Kanan Yelikar said, the severity of Corona has decreased now. Still, the rate of serious patients and mortalities has not dropped yet, which is a matter of concern, she said.

District civil surgeon, Dr Sundar Kulkar said, the Corona patients'' situation is continuously changing, and hence the treatment procedure is also changing, he said.

Meanwhile, the experts opined that most serious patients had diabetes, heart diseases, blood pressure, and other diseases, so they do not respond to the treatment. Moreover, the patients are ignorant about the treatment. They do not go to the hospitals once the symptoms are noticed but approach when the condition gets severe.

In all, 71 serious patients are being treated at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) presently. Similarly, there are serious patients at private hospitals too. The mortality rate due to Covid-19 in the district is 2.82 percent. The mortality rate is constant for the past several days and has not decreased.
