Aurangabad, Feb 12: A couple was killed after the motorcycle it was riding was hit by a truck from behind near Nipani in Aurangabad tehsil on Aurangabad-Beed road at 5.30 pm on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Devendra Thorat (55) and Shalini Thorat (55, both residents of Gevrai Tanda). According to the police, the Thorats were coming towards Aurangabad on a motorcycle (MH-20-FR-6721) when a Hyva truck (MH-20-EC-364) mowed them down. The nearby villagers rushed to the spot bringing the flow of traffic to a halt for half an hour. The Chikalthana police cleared the traffic congestion. The couple was brought to a government hospital where medical officers declared them dead upon arrival. Errant truck driver Surajprasad Saket (Zalta, native of MP) has been booked.
