Aurangabad, Dec 2:

In the last few days, corona patients are said to be at increased risk of developing blood clots, including clots in small blood vessels. Notably, the doctors in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) recognized the symptoms early on. The doctor said that blood-thinning medicines are given to corona patients to prevent clotting, but the complications increased after they stopped taking medicines. Hence many patients come back to the hospital for treatment.

Increased levels of D-dimer protein in the body of corona sufferers with moderate to severe symptoms cause clots in the blood vessels. Doctors treating covid patients have reported that blood thinners are an effective medicine for treatment. Accordingly, these drugs are given to corona patients in the GMCH. Such clots in the blood vessels of the lungs can cause shortness of breath, lack of oxygen in the body, as well as symptoms like pneumonia. After discharge from the hospital, many patients discontinue the medication on their own. However, they return to the hospital in critical condition. Some of these patients are admitted to the GMCH. Doctors said the surgery was performed because of a lump in a blood vessel.

Take medicine regularly

Blood thinners are being administered to all corona patients in the GMCH. These drugs are important, but many people stop taking the medicine after going home. The medicine should be taken as per the advice of the doctor. At least 3 months of medication treatment should be preferred, said Dr Meenakshi Bhattacharya, head of medicine department, GMCH.
