In a surprising development, the Government of Maharashtra issued as many as 78 Government Resolutions (GRs) on March 31, the last day of the financial year 2025–26.
Of these, the highest number (16) were from the Revenue and Forest Department, while several departments, including Industries, Energy, Labour, Minorities Development, Water Supply and Sanitation, and Other Backward Bahujan Welfare, issued only one GR each.
The department wise GRs issued (with numbers) include 11 of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department; seven of Home Department; six each of School Education and Sports Department and Co-operation, Textiles and Marketing Department; five of General Administration Department; four each of Agriculture, Dairy Development, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department-Planning Department-Social Justice and Special Assistance Department-Tribal Development Department; two each of Public Health Department and Women and Child Development Department.
Political experts expressed surprise at this surge, especially since the day coincided with Mahavir Jayanti, a government holiday. The experts claimed that the state government was also active on holidays (Date March 28 and 29). It issued 104 GRs on Saturday, 103 on Sunday, apart from 468 on Monday - the single working day.
Through GRs, the state government approved the disbursement of significant funds across departments. Of the total budget allocation of Rs 924,022 crore for the financial year, about Rs 599,960 crore had been released by late Monday evening, said a political expert on anonymity. Sources in the state finance department indicated that there was a concerted push to ensure that allocated funds did not lapse, which could have triggered public criticism and concern among elected representatives.
