The municipal corporation’s Town Planning section has generated Rs 201 crore in revenue this year. Of this, Rs 124 crore had been collected by the evening of March 31 through building permissions and occupancy certificates. Following the city’s road widening campaign, citizens, wary of enforcement, prioritised regularising their property under the land-use regulations. Over the course of the year, 9,284 property owners brought their properties into compliance, resulting in Rs 74 crore for the corporation, said the civic chief G Sreekanth.
During the financial year 2025–26, special focus was placed on the TP section, recognising it as a key driver for improving the municipal corporation’s finances. Concrete measures were implemented to accelerate revenue collection. Another significant factor was that the city’s development plan, which had been pending for several years, was finally approved by the state government. This allowed several stalled large-scale projects to apply for construction permits, addressing long-standing bottlenecks and facilitating rapid industrialisation, said the civic chief.
Impact of the Road Widening Campaign
Deputy Director (TP section) Manoj Garje was tasked with expediting property regularisation and building permission processes. By the end of March, the municipal corporation had achieved substantial revenue: 9,284 files were approved under property regularisation, 1,314 construction permissions were issued, and 505 occupancy certificates were granted—previously, the number of occupancy certificates issued had been negligible. Enforcement measures encouraged developers and ordinary citizens to come forward, generating Rs 124 crore through these channels.
Process to be further accelerated
To speed up revenue collection, the commissioner personally spent three hours at the TP section two days ago, approving numerous files, which generated Rs 15 crore in a single day. For the financial year 2026–27, the administration plans to further accelerate processes for building permission, property regularisation, occupancy certificates, TDR, and RCC approvals. The municipal commissioner expressed confidence that these measures will significantly boost municipal revenue.
