Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The proposed 85-km Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Ahilyanagar railway line will not be a single-track route but a double-line railway, ensuring faster and more efficient travel for passengers across Marathwada, especially those heading to Pune. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the route has already been submitted to the Central Government.

On Friday, MP Dr Bhagwat Karad met union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi to discuss the expansion of the railway network in Marathwada. He submitted a memorandum seeking speedy approval of new railway surveys and DPRs aimed at boosting connectivity, tourism, and trade in the region. Karad also urged approval for additional routes, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Kannad–Chalisgaon and Beed–Paithan–Bidkin–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Stations planned on the route

Devgiri Cantt, Ranjangaon, Yesgaon, Gangapur, Devgad, Newasa, Usthal Dumala, Shani Shingnapur, Brahmani and Wambhorie stations.

Two DPRs underway

According to Anant Borkar, President of the Marathwada Railway Kruti Samiti, DPRs are also being prepared for two more key lines – Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Chalisgaon, which will strengthen the North–South rail link, and Dharashiv–Beed–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, which will improve regional accessibility.

Persuasion for new railway route

Rajya Sabha MP Dr Bhagwat Karad said, “I discussed with the union Railway Minister the urgent need for approving routes like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Ahilyanagar, Beed–Paithan–Bidkin–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Kannad–Chalisgaon. The Ahilyanagar route will be a double-line railway. I’m actively following up on all these proposals. These routes will offer better connectivity to world heritage sites like Ajanta and Ellora and accelerate industrial and educational development.”
