Cucumbers contain 96% water and have anti-inflammatory compounds that help flush toxins and reduce skin irritation. This has led to a price surge, with cucumbers now selling at Rs 40 to Rs 50 per kg.
Why are cucumber prices rising?
The supply of cucumbers has decreased, while demand has surged. Given that cucumbers are composed of up to 96% water, they help maintain hydration and provide essential nutrients, making them a popular choice among consumers. In February, cucumbers were priced at Rs20-30 per kg, but they have now reached Rs 40-50 per kg. The demand has also increased due to Ramadan, where cucumbers are commonly consumed to break the fast.
Health benefits of cucumbers
Cucumbers are low in calories, fat, cholesterol, and sodium, offering several health benefits. They are rich in Vitamin K and Vitamin D, which help maintain overall well-being. Their high hydration properties aid in digestive health, prevent constipation, and provide protection against kidney stones.
Why eat carrots and beetroots?
Carrots are being sold at Rs 40-50 per kg, while beetroots are priced similarly.
Carrots are a rich source of calcium, fibre, and vitamins C and A, which promote eye health. Beetroots, packed with antioxidants, Vitamin C, and essential minerals, help combat skin problems, keeping the skin fresh and glowing.
50 quintals of cucumber arrive at market
On Saturday, Jadhavwadi market saw an influx of 50 quintals of cucumbers and 130 quintals of carrots. Many people use cucumbers, carrots, and beets to prepare fresh salads. The demand has also increased due to Ramadan. As a result, cucumber prices have surged to Rs 50 per kg, and traders predict that prices will rise further in May.
