Aurangabad, June 19:

The cyber fraudsters duped a man of Rs 1.57 lakh bluffing him that his bank account is getting closed and hence he will have to download a mobile application. The cyber police managed to freeze Rs 1.07 lakh out of the total amount. The complainant will receive this amount soon. Police and bank frequently appeal the people not to share the bank account details to anyone calling on the phone as the bank does not ask for any details. A customer, Sandeep Sharad Mahajan, cost dearer for ignoring such appeals. On June 18, he received a phone call stating that it is a call from the State Bank of India (SBI). The person on the phone said that his account is being closed due to some technical reasons, and if he wants to continue the account, he will have to download a mobile app and sent Rs 10 online. Accordingly, Mahajan downloaded an app and sent Rs 10 on the given link. After this transaction, Rs 1.57 lakh was withdrawn from his account through Google pay. He immediately lodged a complaint at the Cyber police station. Under the guidance of ACP Ravindra Salokhe and PI Geeta Bagwade, a team including PSI Rahul Chavan, constable Prashant Sakla, Sonali Wadmare froze Rs. 1.07 lakh transferred through Google pay to the fraudsters’ account. ACP Salokhe said that no bank asks for the details of the customers' bank accounts and does not ask to download any app. Therefore, the residents should remain alert and should not respond to such calls, he said.
