The Damini Squad of the city police commissionerate stopped a child marriage in Jatwada around 9 am on Sunday after receiving a tip-off through the control room.

Led by police sub-inspector Kanchan Miradhe, the team including Kalpana Kharat, Sunita Naglod, Sarita Kundare, Sakshi Chandre, and women and child development committee member Nitesh Durve reached the venue where the ceremony was underway. The bride’s Aadhaar card showed her age as 17 years and 6 months. At the time, her makeup was in progress, relatives had assembled, gifts were arranged, and food preparations had begun. Officials informed the parents that child marriage is a punishable offence. A written undertaking was taken from them, and they were directed to appear before the Child Welfare Committee on March 30.
