Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Efforts are underway to ensure the city receives an additional 200 MLD of water before the onset of summer. In this context, divisional commissioner Jitendra Papalkar has instructed the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP), GVPR, and Mahavir companies to complete all works from Jayakwadi to Nakshatrawadi within the next 20 days.

Under the new water supply scheme, a Jackwell (source well) has been constructed at Jayakwadi Dam. It is, approximately 27 metres deep, poses severe breathing difficulties for anyone entering due to limited oxygen availability. The work on the Jackwell has been completed, and two days ago water was siphoned into it, which was used for cleaning.

A significant layer of cement sludge still remains at the bottom. A small excavator has been lowered into the Jackwell, and the sludge removal work is being carried out at full pace. This work is expected to be completed within the next two to three days. Subsequently, the main water pipeline to transport water to Jayakwadi has also been completed.

A committee, constituted under the chairmanship of the divisional commissioner, held a meeting two days ago, where the cleanliness of the Jackwell was discussed. After reviewing the situation, he gave the MJP and the contractor companies a ten-day deadline to clean the Jackwell. An additional ten days have been allotted to complete other works related to the water supply scheme. All works are thus ordered to be completed within 20 days.

According to sources, water testing will be conducted by February 25. After testing, efforts are being made to start water supply to the city within a few days. Sources indicate that steps are being taken to ensure water reaches the city before March 1.
