Aurangabad, June 11:

The death toll has risen in Maharashtra due to low supply of amphotericin B injections from the central government for the treatment of patients with Mucormycosis. This is a very serious situation, said Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice B U Debadwar slammed the Central government in a hearing on Thursday. The bench said that it expects the central government to increase the supply between June 10 and 15.

The bench also said that the chief public prosecutor should provide information on how many patients with mucormycosis were treated, how many of them were cured, and how many died from June 10 to 15, 2021. The court also directed to submit the information on the number of injections supplied for the treatment of these patients at the next hearing. The next hearing has been fixed for June 16. Chief public prosecutor D R Kale presented the information about the death of 148 patients of mucormycosis in Marathwada till June 9. During the hearing, Assistant solicitor general Anil Singh on behalf of the central government said that in a similar public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court, Dr Rubina Bose, deputy controller, Medicines, west division, stated in an affidavit that the production of amphotericin B had increased by 62,000 vails in April and 140,000 vails in May.
