Aurangabad, March 23:

The decomposed dead bodies of an aged couple were found in their flat at Padampura on Monday night. The deceased were identified as Vijay Madhav Mehendale (70) and his wife Madhuri Vijay Mehendale (65, Padampura, Mama Chowk).

According to details, Vijay Mehendale retired as a junior engineer from Water and Lang Management Insitute (WALMI) 12 years ago. He had sorosis while his wife Madhuri was suffering from paralysis and bed-ridden.

Vijay used to take care of his wife. The couple has a daughter who settled in America 16 years ago. She had come to the city in February last year. The couple had transferred the flat to her daughter’s name. Their daughter returned to America after that.

Meanwhile, they used to step out of the flat once in 10 to 12 days only. They used to call up to their colony's medical shop owner if they needed

milk, bread, and medicines.

Dr Sharad Bhogale, the husband of Madhuri’s sister, used to call up the couple time and again.

Dr Bhogale had called Mehendales ten to 12 days ago. Vijay's daughter, too, had called them up ten days ago.

Neighbours experienced stink and informed Vedantnagar Police Station.

A carpenter was hired to break the door of Mehendales’ flat. The couple was found lying dead.

The dead body of Vijay was decomposed while Madhuri’s body had just started decomposing. The dead bodies were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) late Monday night. The postmortem was done on their bodies today.

The cause of their death could not be ascertained yet. Their viscera was kept in GMCH for further examination. A case of accidental death was registered with Vedantnagar Police Station. Police feel that the couple may have died ten days ago. PSI Shankar Dukre is on the case.

There were no relatives of Mehendale’s for performing last rites on the couple.

Their daughter said that she was unable to come here from America while Dr Bhogale expressed inability to do it because of COVID spread. Police, with the help of social activists, performed the last rites on the dead bodies.
