Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A series of disruptions hit the city’s water supply on Thursday. The major issue was the burst of a 1,200-mm diameter water pipeline near Dhorkin village. Repair work on the pipeline took nearly 14 hours and was completed at around 4 am on Friday. Following this, water reached the city at about 8 am. Executive Engineer (water supply) Vasant Bhoye informed that by noon, overhead water tanks were filled and water supply was resumed.

Nearly 80 per cent of the city’s water requirement depends on the 1,200-mm pipeline. The pipeline burst suddenly at around 2 pm on Thursday near Dhorkin. After excavation, the leakage point was identified; however, welding at the site proved extremely difficult as a 900-mm diameter pipeline with a cement concrete covering runs alongside it. Working through the night, deputy engineer Manoj Baviskar managed to carry out the repair. After completion at 4 am, a trial was conducted, and once it was confirmed that there was no leakage, all water pumping systems from Jayakwadi were started. Water reached the city by 8 am.

All overhead water tanks had run dry by Thursday afternoon. Priority was given to refilling these tanks, and water supply commenced from noon. Localities that did not receive water on Thursday were supplied on Friday, while areas scheduled for supply on Friday will receive water on Saturday.

Water supply delayed by two days in some areas

Water supply in parts of the city, including Cidco and Hudco, has been postponed by a day. In areas such as Jai Vishwabharati Colony, Hanuman Tekdi, and Naregaon–Chikalthana, water supply has been deferred by two days.
