The police suspect that the homes of 60 accused involved in selling narcotics from their residences are unauthorised. Several cases have been registered against these individuals under the NDPS Act. Even after being released from prison, these accused allegedly continue their illegal drug operations from the same homes. As a result, the city police requested the municipal corporation to inspect these 60 properties and, if found unauthorised, take action to demolish them. The police sent a letter to the corporation on February 16. However, due to the slow pace of action by the municipal corporation, police authorities have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction.
The city police have been conducting anti-narcotics operations for over a year, seizing large quantities of cannabis, MD drugs, syrups, and tablets used for intoxication. Among the accused involved in these cases, 60 individuals were found repeatedly engaging in drug sales from their residences. Police investigations revealed that these homes were constructed without the corporation’s permission. Consequently, the commissioner of police instructed the municipal commissioner to verify the properties against court orders and building permits and to take action to demolish unauthorised structures. However, no action was taken for eight days, hampering effective anti-drug measures. The police claim that cooperation from the corporation to demolish these illegal structures would have a significant impact on curbing narcotics activities.
Notices issued to property owners: CSMC
The CSMC controlling officer Santosh Waghule said, “Under Sections 260 and 478 of the Municipal Corporation Act, notices are issued to property owners in advance. These notices verify ownership and whether proper building permissions have been obtained. If the owners cannot provide the necessary documents, action can be taken. On Monday, assistant commissioners of the municipal corporation served notices to the property owners mentioned in the police letter. The recipients have a specified period to provide clarification. If they fail to do so, a final notice will be issued, after which action will be taken against them. While this process will take time, all actions will be carried out in accordance with the law.”
