Aurangabad, Dec 19:

The state government has issued a notification suggesting a proper dress code for its staffers and contract employees, which includes a ''Khadi Day'' each week to promote the Indian wear. This has come as a boost for Khadi products. Despite coronavirus spread, people are visiting Khadi outlets every day to buy Khadi products in the city.

The state government has imposed a dress code for government officials and employees by restricting the use of jeans, T-shirts and slippers in government offices. In addition, the mandate issued on December 8 stated that khadi clothes should be worn one day a week i.e. Friday. This decision led to a huge increase in the demand for khadi clothes. Crowds are flocking to buy khadi half shirts, full shirts, Nehru shirts, trousers and pants. Giving more information, Khadi Gram Udyog manager R G Sawant said," Khadi cloth sales have increased significantly over the last few days. Clothes including readymade shirts - trousers are specially sought after items. Men tend to buy white, colorful khadi cloth. There are various types of khadi for women, like Punjabi dress, salwar churidar kurta and trousers. The price of one meter of design khadi is Rs 285 and up to Rs 400. Prices of khadi cloth for men are available from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000. Sawant said that those who have never used Khadi clothes till date are now turning to khadi shops.

Boom in business

There are several government offices including the divisional commissionerate, district collector office, Zilla Parishad, Municipal corporation and others. Of these, the number of officers and employees is in the thousands. However, there are only two certified khadi showrooms in the city. Khadi is being sold in both these places. Hence the demand for khadi will increase significantly in the next few months, Sawant said.
