The Hindu New Year and Gudhi Padwa were celebrated with vibrant processions across the city on Thursday, featuring dhol-tasha, lezim, child warkaris and live tableaux, ensuring wide participation.

The main procession, organised by the Hindu Navvarsh Swagat Samiti, began from Rajabazar Sansthan Ganpati temple. A chariot with idols of Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman led the rally, alongside representations of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap, Rani of Jhansi and Baji Prabhu Deshpande. Women raised ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans, while camels, cultural displays, schoolgirls’ lezim and shehnai performances added to the spectacle. Vedic students recited hymns. Minister Atul Save, mayor Sameer Rajurkar, Nandkumar Ghodele, Gajanan Barwal, Anand Tandulwadikar, Kishor Tulsibagwale and former MP Chandrakant Khaire were present. President Praful Malani welcomed participants.

Lezim, warkaris lead procession

Around 100 girls from Montessori Balak Mandir performed lezim, while child warkaris led by HBP Rameshwar Pawar Maharaj presented devotional songs. The procession passed through Shahaganj, Sarafa Road, City Chowk, Machli Khadak, Gulmandi and Aurangpura, concluding at Khadkeshwar ground with a discourse by Mahamandaleshwar Swami Shivgiri Maharaj.

Khatu Shyam tableau draws devotion

A Khatu Shyam tableau, depicting the Kaliyuga form of Lord Krishna, drew large crowds, with a floral idol by Jaisingh and Shaktisingh Holiye as a key attraction.

Mitranagar rally, Hindu meet held

A Mitranagar procession by the Swami Vivekanand Hindu Sammelan Committee began from Bhanudasnagar and concluded at Mitranagar. A ‘Hindu Sammelan’ followed at Narmadeshwar Mahadev temple, where HBP Bhagwatacharya Atul Adamane Maharaj and Rupesh Bangale addressed the gathering.
