Aurangabad, April 20:

The district has nearly 11 per cent COVID patients below 18 years of age with the spread of the second wave of the pandemic virus. Parents are worried about children’s health as they will have to wait two to three months for the vaccine.

A total of 5 children died from COVID during the last 20 days. In the first wave, the nature of the virus among children was mild while in the second wave, it appears serious.

Currently, those who are 45 and above years of age are being vaccinated.

According to the Government's announcement, vaccines will be available for all those above 18 years of age from May first. However, parents are asking a question about the health of those below 18 years of age.

There are 7,000 patients below 18 years of age in the district.

This is around 11 pc out of total patients. The strength of patients between five to 18 years of age is 6,816 while below five years of age is 1154. The death ratio below is between 0.2 to 0.4.

The pc of patients between 18 and 50 years is 60.20. A total of 44,249 patients from the age were detected so far.

Paediatrician Dr Renu Boralkar said that symptoms in children should not be ignored.

“We should ensure that children should remain indoor. They should be kept away from home isolation. Their care should be taken until the vaccine is made available as they are super spreader. They should wear a mask while playing,” she added
