Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

In a boost to law enforcement capabilities, the district police will receive ten new Scorpio vehicles on Sunday, enhancing their fleet strength to 264. The new additions, funded by the District Planning Committee, aim to improve patrolling efficiency, particularly in rural areas where vehicle shortages have been a persistent issue.

The vehicles will be officially inducted at a ceremony scheduled for 5 pm at the Gokul Parade Ground of the SP office. Dignitaries including social justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, OBC and Bahujan Welfare Minister Atul Save, and Leader of the Opposition Ambadas Danve are expected to attend the event. With 21 police stations and critical departments such as the Local Crime Branch, Special Branch, Economic Offenses Wing, and Cyber Police Station under its jurisdiction, the district police force has long struggled with mobility constraints. Poor and rugged roads in the region have led to frequent vehicle breakdowns, intensifying the demand for new additions.

Superintendent of Police Dr Vinaykumar Rathod, along with Additional Superintendent Annapurna Singh and nine Deputy Superintendents, oversees a team that includes 34 Inspectors and Assistant Inspectors. Their operational challenges prompted the District Planning Committee to allocate funds specifically for vehicle procurement. According to Motor Vehicle Department Inspector Santosh Waychal, the existing police fleet consists of 128 four-wheelers, including Boleros, cars, jeeps, water tankers, and mobile units, alongside 136 two-wheelers. The ten new Scorpios are expected to significantly strengthen the force’s response time and operational reach across the district. The move underscores the administration’s commitment to equipping law enforcement with essential resources, ensuring better policing and public safety.
