Tensions between patients' relatives and doctors escalated sharply at MGM Hospital, where two doctors were assaulted and threatened in two separate incidents within two days. Both cases were registered at Cidco police station on Friday.

Doctor assaulted in gynaecology ward

On April 28, Dr. Meet Patel was on duty in the obstetrics and gynaecology department around 12 noon when the husband and mother-in-law of a 26-year-old patient created a ruckus, alleging negligence. The situation escalated into verbal abuse, following which Dr. Patel was assaulted with slaps and punches on his chest, back, and face. Police rushed to the spot. A case was registered on May 1 based on a complaint by hospital medical superintendent Dr. Humapura Raghavan (71, Bengaluru). The accused include the patient's husband Almas Fatima Shaikh (26), relative Shaikh Abdul Nadeem, and the mother-in-law, all residents of Kohinoor Park, Saida Colony. Investigation is being conducted by constable Shivaji Bhosle.

Dispute over ECG leads to assault on resident doctor

On April 29, resident doctor Syed Mustafizur (29, Bihar) was assaulted in the emergency department. A patient, Sheikh Harun Ismail Sheikh (29, Phulenagar, Tisgaon), was brought from a private hospital in critical condition around 5.30 pm. After the patient showed signs of cardiac arrest, doctors conducted an ECG as per protocol. Relatives objected, demanding direct ICU admission, and allegedly attacked Dr Mustafizur with kicks and punches. A case has been registered against the deceased patient's relatives Sameer Shaikh, his father Shaikh Shoaib, and Sheikh Sohel. Investigation is being carried out by constable Bhausaheb Jagtap.

Doctors receiving death threats

Resident doctors told Lokmat Times they are currently facing death threats from the accused's family and associates, raising serious concerns over safety at the hospital.
