Nagpur, Sept 3

Maharashtra has provided only 19 per cent reservation for OBCs. It includes 291 small and large castes. However, a decision was taken at the state level meeting of the Mali Federation not to let this quota get reduced by including other castes again.

An online meeting was recently held under the chairmanship of Avinash Thakare, former vice-president of OBC and president of the Mali Federation. The Supreme Court has given an interim stay to the reservation of the Maratha community. Therefore, some social organizations are demanding that the Maratha community should be included in the OBC category. But this demand is not conclusive. The federation has demanded that the Maratha community should not be included in the OBCs category and that the Maratha community should get their own separate quota.

Mahatma Jotiba Phule and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule started the first school for girls on January 1, 1848 at Bhide Wada in Pune. Therefore, the government declared this area as a national monument. However, the construction of the monument has not started yet. It was demanded in the meeting that the government should erect the national monument immediately. Vice President of Mali Federation Arun Tikhe, Trustee Bharat Mali, Divisional President Rajesh Jawarkar, Dr. NS Kokode, Santosh Jamdade, Women''s Front chief Sandhya Gurnule, Chandrasekhar Darwade and other office bearers were present. Ravindra Ambadkar conducted the proceedings while Prof. Nanasaheb Kandalkar proposed a vote of thanks.

Caste wise census should be done

The MLA Federation along with other OBC organizations have demanded that the Central and State Governments conduct a caste-wise census. The issue of reservation will become clearer if it becomes clear how many people belong to which community in the country and in each state. This was discussed at the meeting of the federation.
