Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Although the tradition of letter writing is declining in the digital age, postage stamps still offer valuable insight into history, culture and social life, said director of postal services (DPS) Dr Ajinkya Kale. He was speaking at the valedictory function of a two-day district-level philatelic exhibition organised (at Kailas Shilp Cultural Hall in the TV Centre area) by the Department of Posts (DoP), which concluded on Sunday evening amid great enthusiasm.
The exhibition featured postage stamps depicting autobiographies, historical events, Bharat Ratna awardees, saints and social reformers, animals and birds, forts and castles, and war equipment, making it highly informative for students. Stamp collectors from six districts of Maharashtra participated in the exhibition, where a total of 20,000 rare postage stamps were displayed. The exhibition was visited by large numbers of school and college students, citizens, and others.
Rare postage stamp collectors were honoured with gold medals, silver medals and certificates at the hands of DPS Dr Ajinkya Kale and senior superintendent of posts (SSP) G Hariprasad. The winners of essay and letter-writing competitions were also feted on the occasion.
Around 1,500 students from more than 20 schools in the city visited the exhibition. Senior postmaster (SPM) Suresh Bansode, sub-postmaster Prakash Ahire, assistant director of postal services Asadullah Shaikh, Sunil Koli, Sanjay Patil, Amit Jaibhaye, Sahadev Satpute and their team worked diligently to organise the event successfully.
