Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Despite knowing that the candidates had fake documents, education society’s president Mazhar Khan and principal Dr Shankar Ambhore colluded to select the candidates and took advantage of their acquaintances in the educational field.

A demand was made for five days of police custody of the accused to seize fake documents from them. The court accepted the request and granted police custody until April 23.

Kohinoor Institute Secretary Asma Khan and Joint Secretary Maqsood Khan were accused of cheating Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) by taking admission to Ph D based on a bogus M Phil degree from D Y Patil University. The university administration lodged a complaint at Begampura Police Station on March 26.

President of the education society Mazhar Khan was also arrested. Dr Shankar Ambhore whose approval as principal of Kohinoor Junior College was withdrawn was arrested on Friday for appointing Shaikh Mohammad Hafeez, as a full-time assistant teacher at the college on the basis of fake documents.

Shaikh Mohammad Hafeez cannot even read or write Marathi. When he was produced in court on Saturday, he was remanded in police custody until April 23. Police personnel argued that they had to investigate on the basis of eight to ten different issues to get this custody. The court granted him custody on this basis.

Anticipatory bail granted to main accused

The district court granted anticipatory bail to Maqsood Khan, the main accused in the complaint, who took admission to a Ph.D. D. course on the basis of a bogus degree. The investigating officers said that an appeal would be filed against this bail.
