Dr Sudhakar Shelke assumed the charge of his new office as the district health officer from acting DHO Dr Ulhas Gandal on Monday. Dr Shelke said that he will focus on planning and close coordination for stemming coronavirus pandemic and other contagious diseases in the district. It may be noted that there was no full-time officer for this post but someone was given additional charge of this office when the coronavirus was wreaking havoc on the district since April. The additional charge of the office was given to Dr Shelke on April 23, but he expressed his inability to shoulder the responsibility after which Dr D B Gholap was given the charge of the office for a couple of months. He was replaced by Dr Gandal who was replaced by Dr Shelke today. Dr Gandal worked hard for keeping the death rate under control and to stem the spread of the Covid-19 in Bajajnagar and other areas of the Waluj industrial zone. Keeping his role and contribution in keeping the coronavirus under control, the ZP CEO Dr Mangesh Gonadwale had written a letter to the health minister of the state appealing him not to transfer Dr Gandal till the pandemic is controlled. Nevertheless, Dr Shelke was given this responsibility considering his experience in ZP and in-charge district health officer between 2012 and 13.
