Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The EcoSattva organisation has launched an extensive public awareness campaign for the desilting, restoration and cleaning of the Kham River at Wadadgaon–Pandharpur. The initiative seeks to sensitise citizens who dump waste along the riverbank and in open areas about the importance of maintaining cleanliness.

While the drive, being carried out with the cooperation of the Wadadgaon grampanchayat, has accelerated cleanliness efforts in the Kham River area, the garbage problem in the Pandharpur stretch remains complex.

Under the guidance of Gauri Mirashi of EcoSattva and in coordination with the Valadgaon Gram Panchayat, the river task is underway. Teams and experts have conducted inspections for the removal of silt from the riverbed, clearing of waste and beautification of the surrounding area. Continuous measures are being implemented to ensure that the river remains clean and free-flowing.

To instill a sense of responsibility among citizens who indiscriminately dump waste in open spaces, the Omkareshwar Sushikshit Berojgar Sahakari Sanstha is actively participating in the drive. Public awareness activities are conducted daily from 5 am to 10 am at nine identified locations, including Salampurenagar, the Kham River vicinity and the main road.

The Wadadgaon grampanchayat is also focusing on large-scale tree plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns and achieving 100 per cent waste collection, resulting in visible positive changes in the Wadadgaon area.

However, with waste continuing to accumulate in the Pandharpur stretch, there is a growing demand for more effective planning and stricter implementation measures there.
