Afzal Merchant, 40, drove his car (MH-20-FG-4881) intoxicated through Jinsi on February 1. Around 8.30 pm, he first collided with an auto-rickshaw and a two-wheeler in Bari Colony, then lost control and crashed into a house’s iron gate, damaging a parked motorcycle and frightening residents.

Jinsi police officers Nandusing Pardeshi, Lobhaji Sukre, and Vilas Bakle rushed to the scene. Afzal, with minor injuries from the airbags, was taken into custody and admitted to hospital. A case was registered following a complaint by officer Sukre. Police said Afzal is a local businessman. Residents noted that low traffic prevented a larger disaster.
