Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Notorious criminal Shubham Bhikoolal Jat (30), who opened fire in broad daylight and later confronted police during an arrest attempt, has been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Police commissioner Pravin Pawar approved the proposal on Wednesday, tightening legal action and making bail difficult for the accused.

The incident occurred on January 19 morning when Jat and his armed associates attacked the house of Sachin Lahot in Mukundwadi, a relative of history-sheeter Ajay Kagad, over a dispute involving a mobile phone and a girl. Jat fired two rounds during the attack. Police arrested Jat along with Mayur Unge (21, Sainagar), Shiva Bhalerao (20, Vishrantinagar), Vijay alias Golya Dhanai (24), Manoj Padul (25), Sagar Raut (20), Dnyaneshwar alias Mauli Yadav (32, Jay Bhavaninagar), and Amar alias Atul Pawar (40, Jalna). Jat has 16 serious criminal cases registered between 2016 and 2025. The action was executed by police inspector Gajanan Kalyankar, Ashok Bhandare, and sub-inspectors Arjun Raut and Reshim Kolekar. Police have also invoked MCOCA against six other organised gangs in the city: Ajay Vahul alias Thakur (7 members), Mukesh Salve alias Mukya (8), Ravi Kale (5), Syed Faizal alias Teja (5), Sheikh Javed alias Tipya (5), and Sumit Rupekar (3). Overall, MCOCA action has been taken against 48 accused, including seven major gang leaders, marking a significant crackdown on organised crime in the city.
