Police have arrested the eighth accused in connection with the kidnapping of 7-year-old Chaitanya Tupe from the Cidco N4 area on the night of February 4, where a ransom of Rs. 2 crore was demanded.

The accused, identified as Sanket alias Ganesh Shewtre (19, Brahmpuri, Jafrababad, Jalna), was remanded to police custody till February 20, as ordered by the court, according to Crime Branch PI Sandeep Gurme.

The main accused in the case include Harshal Shewtre, Jeevan Shewtre, Pranav Shewtre, Krishna Pathade, Shivraj alias Bunty Gaikwad, Harshal Chavan, and Vivek alias Sajan Vibhuti Bhushan alias Mohoto (25, resident of Bihar), who have all been arrested previously. Sanket is Harshal Shewtre's brother. The kidnapping took place when Harshal Shewtre’s gang abducted Chaitanya and fled in a car. However, they met with an accident near Bhorkadn. They later transferred the child to another vehicle and took him to Brahmpuri village. During this time, Sanket, too, participated in the abduction by riding with the two on a motorcycle and leaving them in a field. Police investigations revealed that Sanket was involved in the plot. API Shivprasad Karhale is handling the investigation of this case, which is filed at the Pundliknagar police station.
