Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Strong opposition emerged and tension prevailed in Mhasobanagar (Harsul area) for some time after the municipal corporation's anti-encroachment squad unexpectedly began demolishing shops with a JCB machine on Wednesday morning. As the shops were being destroyed along with their belongings, traders, women, and common citizens became furious with the action.

It so happened that some political leaders organised a religious event in Mhasobanagar. Assuming that the event would attract a large crowd, the municipal authorities began demolishing sheds on the shops along these roads without giving any prior notice to the traders on Wednesday, causing significant damage. Initially, the traders and citizens did not realise the reason for the demolition. However, once it became clear that their livelihoods were being disrupted for the sake of a religious event, opposition began to build. Citizens and traders have accused some municipal staff members of verbally abusing women during the operation. This has raised questions about the nature of the demolition action.

Why was there no notice?

Kalpana Kadam said that the tin shed constructed for the garage was demolished by the civic squad without any prior notice. Had a notice been issued, at least they would have had the opportunity to remove it on their own. The demolition with a JCB caused significant damage, she said.

Sudden action initiated

Today’s sudden action angered the residents, and they attempted to protest. Some women came forward to voice their opposition. The women have accused some of the municipal staff members of verbally abusing them during the protest.
