Engineers able to repair four ventilators

Aurangabad, May 15:

The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has received 150 ventilators from the PM Cares Fund. But in reality only 14 out of 150 ventilators were kept in the GMCH for patients and 50 ventilators are closed in the box. But the 14 ventilators are not being used due to being defunct.

Two engineers from the ventilator manufacturing company had been working on repairs since Wednesday. But despite numerous attempts, they were not able to repair the ventilators. Senior officials from the company arrived in the GMCH on Friday. The administration said they had repaired four ventilators by noon on Saturday. It was also informed that 2 ventilators were used for the patients. District collector Sunil Chavan visited the medicine department on Saturday afternoon and held discussions with the engineers repairing the ventilators. Dean Dr Kanan Yelikar and head, department of medicine Dr Meenakshi Bhattacharya were present.

Standby in private hospitals

The 22 ventilators provided to private hospitals are faulty and lying unused. According to sources, one of the hospitals had written to the GMCH administration to get the ventilator repaired. The ventilators are kept on standby in some hospitals.
