Aurangabad, June 13:

A "Non-Political OBC-SC-ST Social Front" was formed at a meeting held in Connaught Place on Sunday to discuss the issue of political reservation of OBCs and decide on the way forward. The organization will work on the issues of OBCs, putting aside political barriers.

The members demanded that no local body elections along with the forthcoming Aurangabad Municipal Corporation elections, in Maharashtra should be held till the reservation of OBCs is restored and the caste-wise census of OBCs should be done on priority. Reservation went beyond 50 percent on the issue of proportional representation in the Scheduled Tribe-dominated district. This political reservation was canceled by the Supreme Court on March 4, 2021 due to non-establishment of State Backward Classes Commission by the state government, non-compliance of empirical data of OBCs and non-scrutiny of castes among OBCs. A memorandum of demands will be made to the divisional commissioner on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by principal C H Rathod. Former Mayor Bapu Ghadamode, Adv Praveen Ghuge, Mahadev Andhale, Saraswati Harkal, Kachru Velanjkar and others presented their views. Visnu Wakhare, Ashok Pagare, Mirza Abdul Kayyum Nadvi, Uttam Sable, Mahesh Ninale and Ganesh Avchar were present.
