Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: With the rise in the temperature, the evaporation of water in the Jayakwadi dam has also started rapidly.
Currently, the dam has 66 percent water storage while 1.80 MCM water is evaporating every day.
Executive engineer of the dam Prashant Jadhav said that the water quantity which meet the needs of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city for 15 days, is evaporating daily.
The dam had only 25 percent water storage on March 5, 2024 while this year, it has 66 percent. The mercury has started rising gradually since last week. Due to this, evaporation has also increased. Around 1.80 MCM water is evaporating daily.
The daily evaporation was 0.976 MCM until the second week of February. It increased to 1.40 MCM in the last week of February. In March, the percent of evaporation increased further to 1.80 MCM daily.
It is estimated that this may increase by three to four times in the months of April and May.
Out of the total water storage in the dam, 184 MCM water is reserved for the city. The water has been reserved in accordance with the new water pipeline. Only 50 MCM water is lifted from the dam every year as the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation does not have a large system to lift water.

For the city, barely 140 to 150 MLD of water is lifted daily from the old 700 mm, 1200 mm and new 900 mm pipeline . Accordingly, 04 MCM water comes to the city per month.
