The state excise department busted a racket transporting fake foreign liquor in the Harsul area and arrested five persons. Liquor and a car used for transportation, together worth ₹10.42 lakh, were seized.

The accused are Vikram Wagh (30, Sultanpur Khindi), Aniket Karare (27, Shahaganj), Kapil Kshirsagar (32, Shahaganj), Milind Ahire (29, Ganeshnagar, Misarwadi), and Om Gundelekar (20, Nariman Chawl, Dhule). Officials seized 528 bottles (180 ml each) of fake foreign liquor branded as Royal Stag and a car (MH-20 GV-7759).

Acting on a tip-off that fake liquor was being brought into the city, a team led by inspector A.B. Chaudhary, sub-inspectors Priyanka Rathod and Snehal Kedare, and assistant inspector Ganesh Nagve laid a trap on Harsul Pisadevi Road. The suspects were chased and caught, and the liquor consignment was recovered from their vehicle.

Dhule link surfaces

Excise officials said Om Gundelekar is the main accused. Fake liquor had allegedly been brought from Dhule during last year’s election period as well. Aniket Karare, who works at a finance company, allegedly joined the racket to earn quick money, while Milind Ahire had recently quit a similar job.
